Here we share some major tips with you regarding the dismantling / disassembling of furniture. You have to keep these tips in mind before performing such tasks.
Note: These tips are very useful for those who are not willing to hire movers and packers. They want to do this job on their own to save their money.
1. Determine whether moving your bulky furniture will benefit it.
So you are moving out soon and you still have not built up your mind what to do with your bulky furniture. There is not an easy answer to this so you will need to check your situation and do what is best for you in terms of bill, time and attempts.
You may wish to move some furniture or all furniture pieces you owned to the new home. However, the choice to do so will charge you good money due to the massive weight of your bulky furniture items. You have to remember that professional movers and packers will charge you on the base of the total load of your shipment (Weight is one of the major costs forming factor).
Other than in terms of money, moving bulky furniture between two homes will also cost you your time and energy as well.
2. Ask a friend for cooperation
You should not complete the whole task all by yourself. The reason is that you should not try to pull it off absolutely on your own is that there are certain risks involved in the whole process. Some furniture dismantle steps need at least hands of two personals to be finished well (for understanding, for damage- and injury-free).
To complete this you will need more time to do it all by yourself. Time is very precious nowadays so you may not afford to lose.
So make sure you ask a person for assistance(a family member, a neighbour, a friend or a colleague). You will need at least one other person to support you out but if you easily can get more helpers to support you before moving out, that will be even better.
3. Measure doorways & furniture items
The good part is that not all furniture items you have decided to move will need to be dismantled. Those items that can pass easily and safely through all doorways/hallways/corners and stairs till the exit route should remain in their actual position. Properly assembled and sufficiently protected with the right packing and filling materials.
To check whether an item needs to be dismantled or not, first of all measure the doorways & hallways, then measure the dimensions like height, width, and length of all the furniture pieces that have to be moved. Finally, compare the values to figure out if you are bound to have any reassembling problems or not.
If the measurements show that some of the bulky items will not fit safely through any one along the path, then you will have to disassemble those items, it depends on you that you disassemble those items either partially or completely.
4. Instruction manuals
Before you start disassembling your heavy furniture items for safer and easier transportation, you will find it very helpful to have their various direction manuals on hand. That’s exclusively true for the bulky items such as a china cabinet, a wardrobe etc.
You may be confident that you will maintain the task without having to consider the assembly instructions but some furniture pieces do need to be taken apart in a very specific order. So it is always better to be able to stimulate your mind during the furniture disassembling process.
If you do not keep a hardcopy of the instruction manuals, then a quick web search should help you find them online. If you still cannot find them, try contacting the large furniture stores in your area or city for compensation.
Be thoughtful that in most situations, furniture dismantling instructions simply mean furniture assembling instructions pursue backward.
5. Correct tools
To save valuable time, you are advised to bring in beforehand the correct tools for disassembling safely your heavy furniture pieces.
Most furniture items you all have in your home will have been put together with the support of bolts, screws and nuts. Depending on the category of furniture, those bolts, screws and nuts will be distinct in size. So you are going to need to have one full set of screwdrivers for eliminating the screws and one set of wrenches for eliminating the bolts and the nuts. Also a small hammer may come in handy when you are dismantling your furniture for a migration. But be very careful when you use this important tool because you can easily break your furniture items with it.
In some situations, you may need specific tools for dismantling some items of your furniture. Look at those details in advance (e.g. consult with the instruction manuals) so that you do not lose extra time later.
Important note: If some of your furniture items happen to be nailed or glued together, then dismantling those items on your own is not a good idea. Note that some furniture movers will ignore to help you dismantle glued or nailed furniture due to the high risk of break.
6. Ziplock bags
Use resealable bags to keep all small elements safe and secure from getting lost and broken.
Here is another essential thing you should do before dismantling your heavy furniture for a move. Preparing a number of sealable plastic bags in advance (also called Ziplock bags) for keeping safe and secure all small pieces and elements removed from the furniture items.
During the furniture dismantling process, remember to place all bolts, Screws, washers, nuts and other small elements into sealable plastic bags (Ziplock bags) so that they do not get misplaced during the actual migration. So label those ziplock bags and tape them with care to their corresponding furniture item.
What you do not want to happen is to appear in your new home and find out that major bolts, screws or nuts have been mixed up with other small sticky elements. If that scheme did appear, then you would possibly lose an astonishing amount of time to purchase reinstatement fasteners to be able to put back together the dismantled furniture pieces you have taken with you.
