Packing tips and tricks for moving
1. Use the right size of boxes
Put heavy items like books in small boxes because books are heavy. If you put these in large boxes then the box will become very heavy. And there are always chances of break during move. Put light items like linens and pillows in large boxes. Remember large boxes packed with heavy items are a common problem of professional movers. Because in this way they will make the job harder but also have a chance of breaking.
2. Put large & heavy items on the bottoms of boxes and small and light items on top of boxes
If you are putting heavy and light weight items together in one box, put light weight & small items on the top of the box and heavy & large items on the bottom of the box. In this way you can minimise the risk of break.
3. Don’t leave any empty space in the box
Fill the gaps with clothing, packing paper or towels. Because official movers do not move boxes that feel loosely packed or unbalanced. Because there is always a chance that you may damage your products while moving.
4. Avoid mixing different room items in one box.
If you put different items of different rooms in one box then it will consume more time to organise. So avoid mixing different room items. It will make your packing quicker and your unpacking easier.
5. Label each box with the room name with a description of its contents
Labelling will help you and your movers which box belongs to which room in your new place. Numbering each box and keeping a stock list in a small notebook (moving calendar) is a good way to keep track of what you have packed and also to make sure you still have something to be packed. In the end this will help a lot at the time of unpacking on the final destination.
6. Tape boxes well
Use good quality pieces of tape to close the bottom and top seams. Then use a professional movers’ technique, which is making a couple of wraps all the way around the box top and bottom edges because edges of the box are pressure concentrated.
7. If you are moving expensive art then ask your mover about special crating
Never wrap oil paintings in simple packing paper, paper will stick with the painting. For pictures framed behind glass, make an X with masking tape across the glass to establish it and to carry it together if it cracks. Then wrap the pictures in paper or bubble wrap and put them in a frame box, with a piece of cardboard between each framed piece for the purpose of safety.
8. Bundle breakables
When you pack your kitchen items like dishes then put packing paper around each item, then wrap bundles of five or six together with more paper. Always pack dishes on their sides, never on the flat side. And use paper as padding above and below. Cups and bowls can be placed inside one another then add paper in between them and wrap a set of three or four in a bundle. Pack them all in specific dish barrel boxes.
9. Consider those items that will need special treatment
Some movers treat TV’s like pieces of furniture, wrapping them in furniture pads. LCD’s require special wooden boxes/crates for moving if you do not have an original box and can be smashed if you lay them flat. If you are packing by yourself then use a double box for your TV, place the box containing the TV into another box that you have padded with packing paper.
So you can follow above mentioned packing tips and tricks for better results.
